Description
Evasion Mont Blanc is a renowned ski area located in the French Alps, encompassing several interconnected resorts, including Megève, Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, Combloux, and Les Contamines. With over 445 kilometers of slopes, it offers a diverse and extensive terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.
Megève, one of the key resorts within Evasion Mont Blanc, has a rich history as a traditional village turned luxury ski resort. It was originally developed in the 1920s as a French alternative to Switzerland's St. Moritz, and its charming alpine architecture and picturesque town center still reflect its heritage.
Megève offers direct access to the ski area, allowing skiers to easily explore the vast network of slopes. It is also possible to ski back to the town, adding to its convenience. However, despite its famous reputation, it's prudent to not forget that it sits at a low altitude with the peaks only rising to an average of 2000m and the town at 1100m, regardless of snow making fascilities this means in warmer springs and low snow seasons the quality and coverage is easily compromised.
The après-ski scene in Megève is vibrant and sophisticated, with numerous upscale restaurants, bars, and boutiques catering to visitors. The resort offers a variety of après-ski activities, including ice skating, spa facilities, and cultural events, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy off the slopes.
Megève's reputation for luxury and refinement attracts a discerning clientele seeking a blend of excellent skiing and elegant après-ski experiences. In terms of suitability for different types of skiers, Evasion Mont Blanc offers a wide range of slopes catering to beginners, intermediates, and advanced skiers. Megève itself is well-suited for intermediate skiers, with a good selection of blue and red runs. With the low altitude it's a haven for those that love the atmosphere of treeline sking.
The only part of the 445km that isnt directly connected by lift or in-resort travel is the Les Contamines Montjoie - it can be access by a short ski bus from St Nicolas de veroce. Les Contamines Montjoie is a substantial enough area to visit in its own right with 120km, check out the details in the link at the bottom of the page. For off-piste enthusiasts, it offers exciting opportunities to explore untouched powder and backcountry skiing.
There's several other "Back door" resorts to stay instead of Megeve and ski the Massif
St. Nicolas de Veroce is a charming ski resort nestled in a perpendicular valley. With its intimate and relaxed ambience, this small village offers a cozy Alpine experience.
St. Gervais Mont-Blanc is a slightly larger and lively ski resort connected to the Evasion Mont Blanc ski area. Offering a mix of traditional charm and modern amenities, it caters to diverse range of skiers and snowboarders who are unfussed by the luxury of Megeve.
Combloux sits just outside Megeve, with free 15min shuttles between the 2, it has direct access to the ski area and its own much more subdued, traditional village ambience. Ski bus or lift take you up to a beginners area at the foot of the mountain
