Description
Located in the heart of the Pyrenees, Grandvalira is one of the largest ski areas in the world and is situated in the tiny country of Andorra.
Take advantage of the incredible value of tax-free Andorra, where prices are significantly lower than in the Alps, and possibly even lower than in the rest of the Pyrenees.
Grandvalira was formed by the merging of two separate ski areas, Pas de la Casa-Grau Roig and Soldeu-El Tarter, in 2003. The resort has since expanded and developed into a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts. It offers a modern and efficient infrastructure, including state-of-the-art lifts and facilities.
The ski area is well connected with numerous access points throughout - There's 7 different sectors to choose from.
Après ski
Pas de la Casa and to a lesser extent Soldeu are the resorts to choose for a party at the end of the day.
Skiing
This is very much a beginners and intermediates resort, half the piste map is blue, and the blacks are considered easy by wider European standards. This is not to say it's boring, the size and diversity of slopes and connections across the area make it a great option to explore.
When powder day comes, this also means a lot of easily accessible terrain off piste.
Key Resort Differentiators
Pas de la Casa
Younger focus
Lively apres selection
Not the best looking resort
Cheaper end of the scale - purpose built dominates
Soldeu
Busy main road - not the most family friendly
Lively atmosphere
Not a huge selection of off-ski alternative activities
El Tarter
Most accommodation is within easy distance of the slopes
Good resturant selection
More subdued apres
When it comes to quick access to the focus of the ski area, Camillo and Encamp are slighly further removed.
Camillo
has it's own small sector of runs
Including a great kids/ families area
Great for those who want a quiet holiday
Encamp
Has no return ski runs
The "Funicamp" gondola takes you all the way up to the top of the ski area in 15min.
First resort you encounter on the way from Spain
However, the total from end to end Encamp to Pas de la Casa is a 20min ski bus
