Hochkönig

Hochkönig Ski Area is located in the Austrian Alps almost central near the boarders of Salzburg and Tirol. In fact the valley is a key pass between the Zell am See Kaprun areas & other famous Salzburg areas such as St. Johann im Pongau. 

Hochkönig area is a range of peaks that connect the core resorts laterally, so you can travel from one end to the other along the valley. This set up is more suited to those looking for a quiet, relaxed ski holiday, without tearing through km of pistes, due to its linear nature and relatively smaller number of connected slopes. 

The key resort is a traditional Alpine village called Maria Alm, which has a rich history dating back several centuries. The village has maintained its charm and authenticity, offering visitors a glimpse into traditional Austrian culture. The architecture reflects the region's heritage, with picturesque chalets and buildings adorned with wood carvings. 

Maria Alm is connected to the villages of Hintermoos, Hintertal, Dienten and lastly Mühlbach, forming the Hochkönig range. 

When it comes to the après-ski scene Maria Alm has several cozy mountain huts and restaurants where skiers can relax and enjoy traditional Austrian cuisine and drinks. The village also has a few bars and pubs, creating a lively atmosphere for socializing and unwinding after a day on the slopes, but no crazy apres parties. 

Mühlbach is the largest of the three towns, and it is a great place to base yourself if you want to explore the whole of the Hochkönig Ski Area. Mühlbach has a good selection of hotels and apartments, and there is a lively après-ski scene in the evenings. 

Dienten is a small village located just a few kilometers from Maria Alm. It is a quieter place, but it is still a great place to enjoy the mountains. Dienten is home to a number of family-friendly activities, such as sledding and snowshoeing. There are also a number of beautiful hiking trails in the area.
