Jungfrau (combined)

The Jungfrau region is a renowned ski destination located in the Swiss Alps, consisting of three popular ski resorts: Grindelwald, Wengen, and Mürren. Together, they form the Jungfrau ski area, offering an impressive range of skiing opportunities with breathtaking views of the iconic Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains. 

Grindelwald, one of the largest resorts in the area, is a charming alpine town with a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. Its traditional Swiss architecture and cozy atmosphere make it a favorite among visitors seeking an authentic ski experience, athough some argue it can feel "touristy" especially in peak weeks. The ski area is accessible directly from the village, there's 2 accessable areas from the town - The shared Kleine Scheidegg area with Wengen, Allemend and Wengeralp and the Grindlewald-First area on the opposite mountain face. 

Kleine Scheidegg can be accessed by the sceneic funicular railway or the much quicker Eiger Express gondola straight to the top. From here you have access to the whole area, most of which is located on the Grindelwald face. Don't forget to take the funicular right to the top of the Jungfraujoch and experience the top of Europe at 3454m (no pistes from here though) 

Grindlewald-First area has the best mix of features in the area, with a multiperson zip line, the longest taboggan run, free ride pistes, speed checks, half pipe and snowpark. From both you can ski back to Grindelwald. Additionally, the resort boasts an excellent après-ski scene with a variety of bars, restaurants, and lively entertainment options to unwind after a day on the slopes. 

Wengen, located on a sunny terrace above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, is a car-free village and a popular destination for families and intermediate skiers. It has a long history as a ski resort, dating back to the late 19th century. 

To access the ski area from Wengen, skiers can take the Wengernalpbahn train directly to Eiger Glacier and the slopes of the Kleine Scheidegg or the Wengen-Mannlichen gondola . Wengen also has a pleasant après-ski scene, with cozy mountain huts and terraces where visitors can enjoy a warm drink or indulge in local Swiss cuisine while taking in the magnificent views. You ski back along the funicular tracks down the valley from the Eiger glacier, stopping in Wengeralp or Allmend for an apres drink. 

Mürren, perched on a sunny plateau overlooking the Lauterbrunnen Valley, is a picturesque mountain village and the highest resort in the Jungfrau region. This traditional village has a rich ski history and offers a unique and tranquil ski experience. Skiers can reach the ski area by taking the Schilthornbahn cable car from Mürren. T

he slopes in Mürren cater more to intermediate and advanced skiers, with a range of challenging runs and off-piste opportunities. The après-ski scene in Mürren is relatively low-key, with a few cozy bars and restaurants where visitors can relax and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the village. It's a relatively small local area, and you need to take the railway back down to Grutchalp, gondola to Lauterbrunnen and then transfer up to Wengen via the train to access the bigger ski area of Kleine Scheidegg. 

Staying in GRÜTSCHALP or Winteregg, that are lower down than Mürren but still access its ski area make the commute shorter.

The Lauterbrunnen Valley itself is meant to be well worth the visit summer or winter, its unqiue very high rock walls and many waterfalls makign it a haven for walkers.
