Tignes / Val d'isere

Tignes: 

Tignes is a renowned ski resort located in the French Alps, forming part of the ___ along with Val d'Isère. The resort is known for its exceptional snow conditions, extensive terrain, and vibrant après-ski scene, making it a popular destination for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. 

Formally known as Espace Killy ski area, this joint area is made up of 2 very different resorts, Tignes and Val d'isere. 

Tignes was originally a traditional alpine village, but in the 1960s, it underwent significant development to accommodate the growing interest in winter sports. As a result, the high altitude part of the resort is primarily composed of purpose-built accommodations, offering convenient access to the slopes. 

Staying "in Tignes" can be quite the stretch, there are 4 parts of varying altitudes. Although, even if you stay down in Les Brevieres, it will only take you aprox. 12 min to get to the top of the Aiguille Rouge in Tignes 2100 (in quiet times). What it costs you in minimal time can add a lot of value for you money in accommodation.⁠ ⁠ 

Tignes 1550 Les Brevieres:

Located at the lowest altitude, Tignes 1550 Les Brevieres is a charming and traditional Alpine village. It offers a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere with a range of accommodations, restaurants, and shops. The village provides easy access to the slopes and has its own ski area suitable for beginners and intermediates. Tignes 1550 Les Brevieres is known for its picturesque surroundings and peaceful ambiance. 

Tignes 1800: 

Situated at a slightly higher altitude, Tignes 1800 is a modern and purpose-built resort. It offers a good range of accommodations, restaurants, and amenities. Tignes 1800 has a more contemporary feel compared to the other parts of Tignes. The resort provides convenient access to the slopes and is suitable for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. 

Tignes 1800 is popular among families and those seeking a convenient and well-equipped base for their skiing holiday. 

Tignes 2100 / Le Lac:

Located at the heart of the Tignes valley, Tignes 2100, also known as Le Lac, is a bustling and vibrant resort. It offers a wide range of accommodations, restaurants, shops, and entertainment options. 

Tignes 2100 has a lively après-ski scene and a great selection of bars and clubs. The resort provides excellent access to the slopes and is popular among both beginners and advanced skiers. 

Tignes 2100 is known for its convenient location and vibrant atmosphere. 

Val Claret: 

Situated at the highest altitude, Val Claret is a lively and energetic part of Tignes. It has direct access to the slopes and the nearby Grande Motte glacier. The resort attracts a diverse crowd, including advanced skiers and snowboarders, freestyle enthusiasts, and partygoers. 

One of the standout features of Tignes is its exceptional snow reliability, thanks to its high-altitude location. The resort boasts a glacier, ensuring excellent skiing conditions throughout the season, even during late spring.

Val d'Isère:

Val d'Isère is a world-class ski resort located in the French Alps, known for it's up-market reputation. Unlike its counterpart Tignes, Val d'Isère has a more traditional village ambiance, characterized by charming alpine architecture and a rich history. The resort's origins can be traced back to the 19th century when it served as a small farming community. 

Over the years, Val d'Isère transformed into a popular ski resort while preserving its authentic charm. Like Tignes, there's several parts to the resort, whilst the main town stretches out, there's the sub-sectors of La Daille, Le Fornet and Le Laisnant - all connected on the ski bus loop and based around access points to the ski area. 

La Daille: 

La Daille is the first village you encounter when entering Val d'Isere from the direction of Bourg-Saint-Maurice. It has a modern and functional atmosphere, with a focus on convenience and accessibility. The architecture in La Daille consists mainly of apartment buildings and hotels, often designed with functionality and practicality in mind. 

La Daille offers direct access to the slopes, making it a popular choice for avid skiers. 

In terms of après options, you'll find a variety of restaurants and bars catering to different tastes and preferences, with some lively venues for après-ski entertainment. 

Le Fornet:

Situated at the northeastern end of Val d'Isere, Le Fornet is a charming and traditional village that exudes a peaceful and authentic atmosphere. The architecture in Le Fornet is predominantly composed of traditional alpine chalets and buildings, giving it a rustic and picturesque appearance. 

Le Fornet is known for its proximity to excellent off-piste skiing areas and the famous Glacier de Pissaillas. It offers a quieter après-ski scene with a few cozy restaurants and bars where you can unwind after a day on the slopes. 

Le Laisinant:

Le Laisinant is a small and tranquil hamlet located just west of the main village of Val d'Isere. It offers a serene and secluded ambiance, surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. 

The architecture in Le Laisinant is characterized by traditional alpine chalets and rustic buildings, adding to its charm. This area is ideal for those seeking a more relaxed skiing experience away from the hustle and bustle of the main village. 

While Le Laisinant has limited après-ski options, there are a few cozy restaurants and bars where you can enjoy a quiet drink or meal. 

One of the standout features of Val d'Isère is its challenging and diverse terrain, making it a paradise for advanced skiers. The resort offers steep and demanding slopes, including the famous Face de Bellevarde, which has been featured in numerous international ski competitions. However, Val d'Isère also caters to beginners and intermediates with dedicated areas and gentle slopes. 

Val d'Isère's après-ski scene is renowned for its vibrant energy and lively atmosphere. The village is home to a wide array of bars, restaurants, and nightclubs, ensuring visitors have plenty of options to relax and socialize. From cozy pubs serving mulled wine to trendy nightclubs hosting renowned DJs, Val d'Isère offers diverse venues for après-ski entertainment.
