Description

Gstaad is a world-renowned ski resort in the Swiss Alps. It is known for its luxurious accommodations, exclusive shopping, and high-end restaurants.

The Gstaad ski area is divided into six sectors, so the 200km is not exactly a free flowing day of skiing. The bulk of it actually isn't accessed from the town of Gstaad, and is from the neighbouring village of Schönried. The smaller surrounding villages  are all great viable options, they're just slightly quieter.

Rinderberg: This is the largest sector, with 90 kilometers of slopes. It is a good all-round area, with slopes for all levels of skiers and snowboarders.

Eggli: This sector is known for its beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. It has 58 kilometers of slopes, mostly for beginners and intermediates.

Wasserngrat: This is a small sector with 20 kilometers of slopes. It is a good option for families with young children.

Wispile: This is another small sector with 20 kilometers of slopes. It is a good option for those looking for a more challenging ski experience.

Glacier 3000: This is the highest sector in the Gstaad ski area, with slopes up to 3,000 meters above sea level. It is a good option for those who want to ski in the snow even in the spring or early summer. 15 minutes away from Gstaad.

With the exception of the Glacier, for obvious reasons, the ski area is low altitude. Although this means pretty tree lined runs, there's also the risk of poor snow conditions.

The architecture in Gstaad is a mix of traditional Swiss chalets and modern luxury hotels. The town itself is charming and pedestrian-only, which makes it a pleasant place to wander around after a day of skiing.

All of the surrounding villages and towns are traditional "Chalet Villages" and ooze Swiss charm, regardless of where you choose.

The apres ski scene in Gstaad is lively and varied. There are bars and clubs to suit all tastes, from traditional Swiss pubs to trendy nightclubs. There are also plenty of opportunities for dining out, with restaurants serving everything from Swiss fondue to Michelin-starred cuisine.

Overall, Gstaad is a luxurious and sophisticated ski resort spread across a collection of picturesque villages. It's more for the lifestyle skier than the serious piste burner.
