Les Portes du Soleil

Les Portes du Soleil is one of the largest ski areas in the world, spanning both France and Switzerland. It offers an extensive and diverse skiing experience for all levels of skiers. 

The resort is comprised of 12 traditional alpine villages, each with its own unique charm and character. Many of the villages within the area have centuries-old roots and maintain their traditional alpine ambiance. 

Avoriaz, France: 

Avoriaz is a purpose-built resort known for its modern architecture and ski-in/ski-out accommodations. It was one of the first resorts to be designed with a pedestrianized concept, making it car-free and environmentally friendly. The resort sits at an altitude of around 1,800 meters and offers a diverse range of slopes, catering to all levels of skiers and snowboarders. In bad snow years and warm conditions, this is where everyone from the surrounding area heads. 

Morzine, France: 

Morzine is a traditional alpine town with a long history of skiing. It features charming Savoyard architecture and a lively village atmosphere. The resort is situated at around 1,000 meters and offers access to a vast ski area. Morzine is well-connected to the Portes du Soleil ski domain and is a popular choice for families and intermediate skiers. 

Les Gets, France: 

Les Gets is another picturesque Savoyard village with a cozy ambiance. It sits at an altitude of approximately 1,170 meters and is renowned for its family-friendly slopes and excellent ski schools. Les Gets is seamlessly connected to the broader Les Portes du Soleil ski area, providing access to a wide variety of terrains. Both Morzine and Les Gets sit at a low altitude, which as seen in recent years, can mean that the local runs suffer from poor snow conditions. 

Châtel, France: 

Châtel is a charming village with a mix of traditional and modern architecture. It stands at around 1,200 meters and offers a more authentic and relaxed mountain experience. Châtel provides access to diverse ski terrain, and its proximity to the Swiss border allows skiers to explore both French and Swiss slopes. 

Morgins, Switzerland: 

Morgins is a Swiss resort nestled in a picturesque valley. With an altitude of around 1,350 meters, it is connected to the Portes du Soleil ski area via ski lifts and slopes. Morgins boasts excellent snow conditions and stunning mountain views, attracting skiers of all abilities. 

Champéry, Switzerland: 

Champéry is a charming Swiss village with traditional chalet-style architecture. It is located at an altitude of approximately 1,050 meters and provides access to the vast Swiss and French slopes of Les Portes du Soleil. Champéry is a gateway to numerous scenic off-piste routes and freeride opportunities.
