Description
Silvretta Montafon is a popular ski resort located in the Montafon Valley of Vorarlberg, Austria right near the boarder with Switzerland.
The resort boasts over 140 kilometers of ski slopes. The majority of the terrain is above the treeline, with low resort altitude you're most likely to need to get the Gondola back into town in most cases. This is the case for the beginners areas too.
If you want to venture off piste, there's great opportunity to hit more km here, so advanced skiers should take advantage of a guide to add variety to their holiday. There's also some decent blacks by the Nova chair and beneath the Sennigrat chair.
The ski area is connected to three villages: Schruns, Gaschurn, and St. Gallenkirch. All three villages have train stations, making them easily accessible by public transportation.
Schruns is the largest of the three villages, with a population of around 7,000 people. It has a lively après-ski scene, with a variety of bars and restaurants.
Gaschurn and St. Gallenkirch are smaller villages, with a more traditional feel. They both have a good selection of bars and restaurants, but the après-ski scene is not as lively as in Schruns.
If you want easy access to all of the area, it's best to stay in St. Gallenkirch, where you can choose daily which of the 2 parts to ski from the Grasjoch Bahn or the Valisera Bahn gondolas.
